Design Case Study: A comprehensive design solution addressing the critical challenge faced by small business owners in suburban and rural India who struggle with ineffective signage solutions.
Small business owners in suburban and rural India, like motel owner Rajesh Kumar, struggle to enhance visibility to attract customers. They face a critical dilemma between unreliable, high-maintenance traditional signs and modern LED solutions that seem too costly and complex. This situation creates significant barriers:
  • Inefficient signage that's expensive to operate
  • Poor professional image that fails to attract customers
  • Hindered business growth and increasing operating costs
For businesses in areas with heavy rain and extreme heat, durability is essential. A sign must endure harsh weather, particularly monsoons, to be deemed a trustworthy, long-term investment.
Users today expect simple and efficient apps. Business tools must be mobile-friendly. PC-dependent solutions with complex interfaces are considered outdated.
  • Hardware is available, but software control is a major issue
  • The software is clunky and non-intuitive
  • Most owners update their sign's content only once, turning a dynamic tool into a static one
  • Rapid growth in the LED market with overwhelming options
  • Low-quality imports have led to user skepticism
  • Business owners fear choosing the wrong product
  • High reliance on personal recommendations over marketing
  1. Strict Budgets: Initial purchase price is the single biggest obstacle
  2. Fear of Hidden Costs: Concerns about electricity consumption and repairs
  3. 'Set It and Forget It' Mentality: Users want reliability without maintenance
  4. Technician Dependency: Users rely on local technicians for setup and updates
"Quality ones seem expensive; I only had a ₹3000 budget for this one." "I need a sign that's bright and tough, but it has to be affordable upfront."
"I can't afford to buy something that will require constant, expensive repairs." "My current sign consumes 'vampire electricity' even when it's supposed to be off."
"This new sign has to pay for itself by bringing in more tourists." "My top three criteria were the price, the display quality, and how weatherproof it was."
